Why do I have no sound?

Confirm compatible sound card installed (SoundBlaster 16 compatible is recommended). Replace sound card if not compatible.

Check the following items:

  1. Does the sound work in other applications such as the windows system sounds? This indicates whether the sound card has been set up.
  2. Does wave audio work on the computer? To test wave audio - use Windows Explorer and double click a *.wav file in the course audio directory, if the file does not play, you need to consult the card manufacturer and set up the sound card correctly.
  3. Does audio work in the courses on other computers? This indicates whether the problem is with the particular user or with the installation. Check network permissions.
  4. Does audio work for one course but not another? Reinstall the course. Check network permissions.


If the speaker icon is disabled in the course, the program has not detected sound capability and has turned sound off. Confirm the card is a 16 bit SoundBlaster or better, if so make sure that the MCI (Media Control Interface) drivers are installed.

If Either "Audio Coaching" or "Audio Highlighting" plays, but not both, then check:
\ALM\COMLY45\audio.ini

When in doubt, use the default.
