Aware Learning products can be installed to any server of a local area network that support drive mapping, regardless of operating system.

The installation to the server is done in two parts:

  1. The Aware Learning Manager (ALM) is installed first. It act as the student management and course management system, and serves as the 'foundation' of the Aware products.
  2. Any number of Aware courses can then be installed on top of the ALM. Each course must be installed separately.

Once the Aware product is installed to the server a Workstation Setup must be run at each PC from which you wish to access the Aware courses. The workstation setup (WSSETUP32.EXE) copies needed DLL files to the local machine, and sets up the icons and shortcuts in the Windows Start menu.

The installation procedure is fairly straightforward. The administrator or IT department must:

  • install the ALM from a PC to the shared (mapped) drive.
  • install each course in turn from a PC to the shared or mapped drive.
  • run the WSSETUP.EXE at each workstation that needs access to the software

The client software for version 3.x of the Aware Learning Manager and below operates only on Windows client PC's, and support all versions of Windows from Windows 98 through to Windows XP.

The user that will be logged in at each PC must have appropriate permissions and rights to save temporary files on the local machine. Additional FAQs are available on this topic.
